Hi It depends on how much you use the wheelchair if you have some mobility maybe an ordinary room would be ok, but if you need it all the time then book a disabled room this should have lower fittings and a wet room, the modern ships are very wheelchair friendly with ramps and wide doors on the toilets there are spaces available in the theater just for wheel chairs , also help getting on and of the ship ,some ports have free transport for wheel chairs but not all ports are that wheelchair friendly. You should pick a cruise agent and seek there advise you can ask them if you need any other questions ?
I think Ventura has 20+ cabins specially adapted for wheelchair passengers. As Buckley has already said, ensure your cruise agent is fully aware of your special needs and ask them to book you a wheelchair cabin. I have a friend who is totally wheelchair bound and has travelled on P&O Oriana twice. She's been very impressed by the service and facilities. On both cruises she chose the Canaries, as the itinerary did not have any tender ports. With the help of her husband and members of the crew she was able to go ashore at every port.
I'm a wheelchair user and travelled on a Royal Caribbean ship last November. This was the first cruise we've done but it was excellent. We've travelled extensively but my partner said the disabled cabin we had was one of the best rooms we've ever had, compared to hotels we've been in. We paid extra for a balcony and although more expensive it was worth it as there were no problems concerning trying to find somewhere to lounge by the pool when everyone was on deck. Plus you can have the balcony for some quality time while the rest of your party go around the ship! However, if you don't want to go for a balcony cabin you'll still have a great trip in whatever cabin you get. The facilities were brilliant and we didn't experience a single problem. The cruises now are totally geared up for disabled travellers and I'll bet Ventura will be brilliant for you. Only problem with cruises is they spoil you for any other type of holiday-once you've been on one you can't wait to do it again!
