Citizens of India, Nepal, and Bhutan require a visa to enter Canada. A single entry visa allows you to enter Canada only once. If you have a valid USA visa and are visiting the USA on your trip to Canada, the visa may also be used for repeated entries into Canada from the USA within the time allowed for your stay in Canada. A transit visa is required when a traveller will be in Canada for 48 hours or less en route to another country. There is no fee for a transit visa, which can be issued as either a single or multiple entry. The applicant must demonstrate to the visa officer that they have an onward ticket and a visa, if required, for their ultimate destination. At the Port of Entry, the immigration office will determine if the traveller is granted admission to Canada. If the traveller is not granted entry, he or she will be sent back to the point of origin.

Hi Reddy, I am in the same boat as you. I booked a cruise to alaska from Seattle and I am not sure if i need a canandian visa. I called canadian embassy and they wouldnt tell. I called NCL and they cant help. I am on a H1B and carry indian passport. My questions. 1) Is a visa required . 2) If yes, will it be a transit( because we only get down at the port for a few hours) or visitor visa.

Can someone on this thread tell their experience? was Canadian visa needed even if passenger did not get off the ship or cross border (in excursion trip)? We have similar situation, and my mother is coming to USA in few weeks - not sure if that is sufficient time to get Canadian tourist visa from India Thanks.

We booked a cruise to Alaska and the ship has a stop in Canada. Our parents from India are visiting USA and they want to join us on the cruise. 1) Do they need a Canadian visa even if they choose to stay back on the ship (not to get off the ship in Canada)? 2) If needed, how hard/how much time does it take for Indians visiting USA to get a Canadian Visa from USA? Thanks for your help.
