Thank you to all who replie.
Use the train. They run every 15 - 30 minutes and the journey time is only 15 minutes from Livorno Centrale to Pisa Centrale. The cost is negligible and its so much more comfortable as you are deposited right in the middle of town in both cases. It is actually possible to travel by train to Florence, spend 4 hours there, then go to Pisa, have a couple of hours there and then return to Livorno all in one day.
For example: Livorno 08:33/Florence 09:55
Florence 14:27/Pisa 15:31. The trains from Pisa to Livorno run every 15 minutes and the journey time is also 15 minutes. Its just a short taxi hop to the boat from Livrono Centrale. Have courage - you won't bet let down.
Taxis want €60 each way. The train is €5.50pp. No contest.
Dont know but the why not fo by train it takes about 30 mins direct. You may need a taxi to the station in Livorno as the port is a little way out from the town, but we normally take the ship shuttle bus and then walk to the station. In Pisa the main station is quite convientent but is a fair walk to the Tower. There are normally plenty of taxis on the quay all battering their fares. so denpending how many of you there are check out the fare first. The last time RCL were chargin 4 USD shuttle fare per passenger each way to twon and the rail fare was quite cheap.
What is the ship-shuttle bus?
The ship lays on a shuttle bus and you are charged a fee to use to take you into the townof Livorno as there is no other way to get in other than taxi, it is a ong walk and realistically too far. You can either buy you ticket at reception or when you get on the bus at the port. We then took the noumber one bus to the station if you are going on the train. The bus will drop you off inthe centre of Livorno town and will pick you up in the same place. The shuttles run all day from ship to town and back, and you will normally have to wait omroe than 15 minutes. Just make sure you allow ample time for the train to return to Livorno and bus to pick up point.
In Pisa you can take the red bus trip from the station or just walk it is about 20 minutes to the leaning tower, ask at the tourist office at the station which way to go as it is not well signposted. We walked there and got the local bus from the stop nearer the Tower opposite the card and souvenir shops and that takes you back to the railvway station,
I note the quesstion Vigo to the ship it is easy walk across the road and then in town. Not a lot to see but walk up to the fish market and up the hill to the main town.
My three friend took a Taxi to Pisa from Livorno - from the quayside - and it cost 120 Euros between them, but the Taxi was theirs for as long as it took them to look around the sights, etc and they were back on board the ship in plenty of time. Hope that this helps.
We have just come back from Pisa and you should be aware that the only interesting thing to see is the Tower and there were lengthy queues even in mid March. The city has very little else of interest. If you run out of things to do (which we did) I recommend getting the train from Pisa to the very attractive walled town Lucca. Trains run every 30 mins and take 30 mins. If you hire a taxi for the day then have the driver take you there as well as Pisa as it would take less than 20 mins to drive there. Have a nice time.
How easy to get from the Port to the town at Vigo?
How much will it cost by taxi from the port to the tower of pisa.
