There are no standard rules and it varies from one cruise line to another. Usually there are some areas on board that are designated smoking areas. I don't know of any ship that is smoke free.

Brian has said most of it. Some ships have very small smoking areas whilst others still allow smoking in cabins. The main story is that as time goes on the rules are changing so if it is important to you, one way or the other, check with a cruise lines web-site where you should get the latest information as far as the cruise line is concerned. ...
