Find Your Cruise
I am going on the Celebration in September and booked a single outside cabin for what I calculate as a 38% supplement. The Thomson brochure lists single supplements for all its cruises but I reckon you have to book early as there are few cabins available. The brochure deck plans show single cabins for both Celebration (15) and Spirit (22) but the Berlitz guide says no singles for these ships!. I guess that they have added sinles in recent refits so must be aware of the demand. The single cabins are on the lower decks aft so there may be noise/vibration issues but for me this might be OK as I won't spend much time in the cabin.
Thomson Cruises are about the worst company as far as single cabins are concerned. It seems to me they just don't encourage the single traveler. I tried to book for the Red Sea Magic cruise which was advertised at £499, but they asked me for £1698 for a single. It is better to wait for a last minute reduction amd book for 2. It is not your fault if you book for Joe Bloggs and he fails to turn up at the airport. I have had long discussions with Thomson on their singles policy but have had little response.
I totally agree I've booked for a cruise in april and paying for a single cabin £940 and two people can go for £1040. On celebration last year I did have a single cabin but it was a double bed! so better than I'd thought but still expensive.
Thought would answer you as I think you have mistakenly commented on the wrong question! I live in hope of a double bed and a higher and better cabin, but I think Thomson look down their noses at us singletons - why place us right at the back of the ship if they didnt?? I will have to buy some state of the art ear plugs otherwise I shall have wasted all that cash! I hope you enjoy your single cruise, please post a review - I would be interested to know how you get on - I dont go until October. Are you going on the Spirit if so what cabin have you got if you have pre booked?? Anyway Bon Voyage.
Hi. I am due to go in October and as far as I know the single cabins (both inside and outside) are on Deck 3 at the rear of the ship - you can see this on the Deckplan if you go into Thomsons website or google Spirit deckplan. I havent prebooked in the hope these will all be full and they will upgrade me, otherwise I will I fear, need a good set of earplugs but that (together with a hefty supplement) is unfortunately the price us singletons have to pay!! I think it is time people approached the major cruise lines and insisted on better deals as there are so many single travellers and they are not tapping into that market - but that is for another day!
I hope you decide to give it a go anyhow, I will post my review if I survive my first cruise alone!
Hi. I agree Thomson dont encourage us to travel with them. I think this is because they nearly always sail full and dont need to which is a shame. I thought of waiting until the last minute but prices rarely drop and often go up near to the date if the itinerary is popular = I guess if you just want to experience a cruise and are not too bothered by where you go that is ok but if you want a particular itinerary or are fussy about where your cabin is - I wouldnt advise you wait until the last minute. Thomson, I have found to my cost, are often totally full and you can lose out if you want to travel with them in particular.
