We have not been on the thomson calypso but have been to turkey with costa cruise line. The cruise was fine except for the italians, but thats another story, we did go on a tour to ephesus in turkey, dont go, the trip was hurried and there was no time to 'shop' for souveniers. be aware of being offered a trip to a carpet factory, a waste of time, boring, expensive and if you wanted a carpet they have to be exported out. The turkish people pester you, i would suggest getting a taxi from the port and go into the town and browse yourself unless there is another site you wish to visit.

Not exactly new. She was built in 1955 as the Southern Cross owned by Shaw Saville .

If you type in the name and cruiseline at the top of this page the reviews for that ship will come up.I am sure I have seen some reviews for the Calypso on her.

Just come back from Thomson Calypso cruise. It is a small ship (converted ferry). The room was noisy (Room 113) in the bowels of the ship. On the plus side the entertainment team were excellent, the food was good and the drinks were reasonably priced. The cruise stops were good with enough time to see the sights. We went through the Corinth Canal, Corfu, Montenegro (Beautiful) Pareus Athens and Volos. The excursion to the Acropolis was very interesting. Hope this helps.

Just returned from the Greek island cruise on the 1st Oct, highly recommend, we did not use the main dinning room but used the Bristo self service buffet as my mother has a very small appetite and could choice what she wanted. We did not go on any trips, but had plenty of time to visit at all the stop.

Thanks for your answers. I am really looking forward to seeing Ephesus as I am very interested in archaeology, so I would really like to know if it is better to go on the arranged trip or do it yourself. I will go my own way in Athens as that is very straightforward and having read several comments I will probably just hire a taxi for Ephesus. Thanks again everyone.
