There was a major outbreak of the Norovirus on the Sea Princess on or about 31st May 2006. I can find no other report of an outbreak on this ship since then. That is not to say there have been none but the liklihood is small. This virus is around and does strike just about every cruise line at one time or other and cleanliness is essential by both the Cruise Lines and passengers. So if you see anyone miss the anticeptic units you have every right to ask them to please use them. Hope that helps.....Neil Down.

My husband and I have just returned from a trip to the Med on the Sea Princess. It was our first ever cruise and supposed to be a real treat. Unfortunately, towards the end of the first week, we were told that there were some cases of the Norovirus and my husband contracted this soon after. He was dreadfully ill all night and it only started to recede when I called out the medical staff to administer an injection and other meds. It took him a total of 2 days in cabin 'quarantine' and a further two days then to recover completely and he is a healthy 50 year old! I understand this affected some older passengers for much longer. The captain began his daily updates by giving us numbers of people affected, but towards the middle of the outbreak he stopped doing this, which only made people more anxious about how many passengers had been affected. I can say that the staff had been very efficient in their care of people affected, but my greatest concern is that more needs to be done to discover exactly how this bug starts and spreads in the first place. Although I wasn't affected myself, luckily, I did avoid the Horizon Court area because I felt that this 'self-service' Court stopped being self-service and became staffed instead. Sadly, this has coloured our experience of cruising and I do not think we will try it again. The irony is that I was the one who took seasickness remedies with me as I was so worried about this, but it was my husband (just retired from the Royal Navy after 32 years) who ended up ill!
