Why are you worried ? Even if the shows are bad there is far more to do on board anyway and don't forget some of the reviewers have a strange concept of what's good and what is not. I can assure you that it is almost a foregone conclusion that he will enjoy his first cruise immensely....regards....Nei.

The Holiday Inn on Herbert Walker.. which is about the closest is getting a bit tattered. The Devere Grand.. too expensive. Try the Novotel. Centrally located.... walk to shopping.... modern and comfy rooms. Priced right, too.

Neil and Ida Down - Answered a Question by hardwick (11 Dec 07 19:49)

Hi , We have been very lucky in that we have been able to go cruising for a very long time. I stopped counting after thirty cruises and next year we now have three cruises booked so far. We both find that each and every cruise is so different even though we sometimes do a similar itinerary. I am also a nosey so and so and delight in finding things out. I am also accused of being controversial and those that call me this are quite correct and I revel in it. No, I have never been on Oceana but know a great deal about her. P & O were one of my customers in the past and now occasionally I am one of theirs. We are so pleased that you enjoy cruising it is an ever changing pleasure, mostly for the better but ever more frequently , they are doing things which are in the interest of the cruise lines and definitely not favouring the passengers. Hotels in the docks area include the Novotel, which is ok and has good prices, The Ibis which is often just a little more expensive but good with it, The De Vere Grand Harbour which is so pleasant but five star and has a price to match. More centrally placed in the centre but within easy reach of the docks is the Jurys Inn and as it is new I do not have much knowledge of it. If you are bringing your car and intend to park it in the dock, sometimes a free offer is available then I would think about spending the night in the New Forest area, Brockenhurst or Lyndhurst or even on the edge at Romsey. We have appreciated your comments and wish you bon voyage….Neil and Ida .

We were on Oceana in the Caribbean last February and found the entertainment on board to be good with quite a variety of entertainers.
