P&O provide a daily information leaflet detailing what will be happening at various times throughout the day. Information on safety and where your muster station (place to go in the event of an emergency) is are generally printed on the back of your cabin door. The safety demonstration is normally put onto the ships television channel. It would be a good idea to advise the front desk that you have hearing problems so that in the event of an emergency they could send a crew member to advise you.

We have just returned from a Royal Caribbean Cruise, and travelling with us were a couple of profoundly Deaf friends. Before we travelled I contacted our booking agent and asked them to advise RCI that our friends were profoundly Deaf (and sign language users), and to ask what facilities RCI offered for profoundly Deaf passengers. RCI provided a portable system that comprised a cabin doorbell that triggered a red strobe button and a vibrating under pillow pad to alert them of someone at the door. Also incorporated into the system was the facility of visibly alerting them to alarm calls via the guest relations staff....this being early morning calls, etc. This was also arranged in case of emergency calls. I am not aware of what facilities P & O offer to guests who are Deaf or HOH, but you should make your requests and needs known to them in good time for them to make adequate arrangements. We have other Deaf friends also that cruise regularly on several ships and companies, I will contact them and ask if other lines offer a similar facility. The important thing is to make the shipping company aware of your needs. Hope you will enjoy your Cruise, Guest Relations staff on board the ships we have travelled on have been most helpful. If you are taking their excursions, then ask them to get you on board your coach in good time beforehand.

Inform P &O before you travel - my husband has varioumedical conditions and P&O are very helpful Your cabin steward should also help you if he is aware of the problem. But let P & O know in the first instance.

Thank you for your help I have had an email from P and O saying that Deaf People will have flashing door bells , Vibrating alarm clocks in their cabins if they let P and O know they are deaf before they sail and then to mention it to the reception on embarkation where they will send someone to the cabin to install them for us. They will also have Text Phones. so this has taken a load of my mind and I look forward to the day we sail.
