Find Your Cruise
Many thanks everyone that has replied, will make sure we have the green cards made out exactly right! have been through US immigration in San Fransisco after a cruise and wasnt too bad but remember all passengers queing up to be seen taking quite a long time. Lynn.
I dont remember Canadian Immigration being particularly difficult and have entered Canada a few times. As the cruise is to Alaska you still will go through US Customs at some point. I have done two Alaska cruises, and its not a problem. Enjo.
Canada is far better than usa ,people are much nicer, very polite and exceedingly helpful, the customs are more human and polite and don't snap at you like the yanks do.you will experience a sight to last you a lifetime in alaska especially at the glaciers,my wife and I found it to be a very moving experience as did all the passengers,we were all just in awe at the sights,we did a train ride and the cruise
In about 99% of instances, entering Canada is a lot more pleasant than entering the USA! The customs and immigration officers are generally far more relaxed and nicer. If you are crusing from Vancouver up to Alaska you will have to go through US immigration before you go onto the ship as the US always requires pre-clearance. The same thing happens if you fly from Canada to the US....i.e. you have to go through a US immigration station while still in Canada and before you board the plane. Just remember, never "make jokes" with customs or immigration people in any country.....they are not strong on senses of humour!
Canadian immigration is much easier than American. As your other reply states though you will have to do American customs. The worst part of this is making sure you get the green card absolutely right. When I boarded the ship (I was on the Zandaam) there was virtually no hassle as we boarded as a coach party. This is a superb holiday - enjoy.
Canadian immigration officers are friendlier than their American counterparts so you are much likelier to be welcomed as a tourist coming to Canada rather than being treated as a potential terrorist when you enter the States on a foreign passport.
We did this trip last year, and found no problem with Canadian immigration, but when you get to Vancouver to board your ship, you will find it takes a long tedious time to get thru USA customs, and boy, are they a serious lot. Once thru, though, it will all have been worth while - you will have a fabulous time - Alaska is just awesome. Just know you will enjoy it.
Yes its a lot easier prepare for usa immigration to board ship alaska awesome take the helicopter ride its terrific well worth money rail journey fab rain forest disapointing if doing rockies trip first excellent see bears etc also go see the whales good day ou.
As previous replies have stated, Canadian Customs are no problem, as they treat you with courtsey. You will go through US imigration in Vancouver prior to boarding your ship. Make sure you have all the correct paperwork completed & YES you do need the green card. We were told wee did not need it, completed the white card & all other documents, qued for 1.5 hrs only to be turned away to the back of the que because we had not completed the green form - they would not let us do it at the front, were rude & aggressive. A SAGA rep with a party, was arrested for arguing with them & caused a delay in sailing time from 4pm - 6pm. - it quite ruined the start of our cruise. However once we got on board, the cruise was fantastic - enjoy.
