We havent been on a cruise to Cuba ,but on a 2 weeks package and took US Dollars dont take US Dollar travellers cheques as they refuse most things American ....not dollars though, take plenty of 1 dollar bills as their are lots of professional beggars in the capital Mari.

Yes Take US dollars acceptable everywhere except Cuba, and there you can use the ATM to get cuban pesos.
