What about jet lag after 6hour flight to and from N.Y ?A.J.S/WALE.
There is the diamond district in new york with some serious jewellery be prepared to haggle, i did and got the most beautiful ring which i,ve never seen anywhere else but i,ve also bought in st lucia and barbados.i think the quality of jewellery is better in new york and you wont necessarily pay much mor.
If you are going to St Thomas, then this is the place for shopping especially jewellery. Lots and lots of shops, have a great time. Kind regard.
St Thomas is considered to be the best place to buy jewellery. Shops that are rated are:
Mayfair in St Thomas. They're right when you get off the boat in the shopping area. Small shop, great service, I got such a deal!! Bought a three-stone diamond pendant and had it appraised at 3x what I paid for it.
Crown jewelers in St. Thomas was very reasonable, and avoid Diamonds International.
I would agree with the Shaws,St. Thomas is a great place to buy jewellery but I would suggest that you take your time and have a look around the shops at the port, take notes, then go into town and have a look there as well. Then take a considered choice. Remember that you can bargain (or haggle) to get the price reduced. We've always had jewellery purchased valued at home afterwards and always been very happy with the price we paid in St. Thomas.....Good huntind, Leanne Dow.
Sorry I meant to add....if you are sailing to N.Y. then you will not get jet lag in fact you will get an 5 hours extra throughout the cruise going to the States but if you're flying just think of me when you wake at 3am in need of a coffee or even just try to get back to sleep. Leann.
Hi is there anybody going on the Q.M2 CRUISE on 29/2/08 to the Caribbean and flying from Birmingham on flight no CO27 if so is it far to the hotel excelsior and is it best by taxi or coach, i have heard taxis can be expensive A.J. S/WALE.
No one has mentioned paying duty. In fact you will be liable to pay UK tax on any purchase with a value of around £145 plus. If you buy then don't declare it at Cusoms in UK, if stopped by Customs Officer you can be fined for evading tax.
