Neil Down - Answered a Question by robinson (11 Aug 07 16:15)

I have sailed on Minerva II which has now been incorporated into the Princess Fleet. We were often asked whether we were "Min oners" by people who claimed they knew Mr Swan when he was a cygnet. “Min one” would be a different experience for most cruisers as it is very different to general cruising. For instance you will find that the cruise will be like academia afloat with a fair few really expert lecturers whose knowledge is unsurpassed. They lecture most sea-days and in the evenings, apart from a small group playing and the odd recital there is little other entertainment. We did manage to get one quiz going but that was a struggle. The shore trips are free and fantastic but their booking system (when we were on) was very bad and those in the know overbook places so that they were sure a getting one but invariably failed to cancel there other bookings they had been allocated. Food was extremely good as was the accommodation but I am not sure which ship Swan Hellenic has currently leased. Hopefully the staff will be as good and as helpful as previously. It is one of those cruises you can love or leave. I will warn you though that there is a certain amount of elitism aboard, we knew of passengers who would study the passenger list, which was issued to all, to see if there was "anyone worth getting to know" onboard. Antarctica to Greece has to be a great trip, Neil Dow.
