I personally don't drink the tap water but I think it is OK....but in Europe you can get bottled water ashore very cheap...last month we got 6 x 1.5 litre bottles for 8 euros in Barcelona port shop and in Madeira got 4 x 1.5 litre bottles for 3 euros so only needed one bottle at ship prices....most ships have water machines (like tea/coffee machines) which are OK as well. Hope this helps.
Hello...This time I differ from "Morris" the tap water is very safe to drink on all cruise ships. It goes through a good system before it arrives at your cabin. I know of no reported cases of any infection or illness caused by ships water and that applies to many of the river boats on the Nile as well although there one must be more circumspect. The water in the water machines comes from the same source as does your cabin water. ….Heathe.
Yes, it is perfectly safe to drink the tap water.
Safe or not Heather, I have found that the tap water on some ships tastes foul. I stick to bottled wate.
Hello "Matt" ..Having thought about it you might be right and so might " Morris" to a degree. I am afraid that apart from QE2 I only use the newer ships and of the 21 different ones of those I’ve been on I have found no water to be distasteful but as we could be talking of the older vessels here I could be in error...Heather
I do so hate not being able to use Christian names so if you are able to ...please put one at the end of your message, it's so much more friendly..H
I understand your problem, Matt. The taste is due to the water being produced onboard from sea water, most usually by reverse osmossis. This saves considerable money for the cruise lines. Perfectly safe but tastes 'not quite right' because it lacks the normal nutrients and minerals. The water Heather remembers on QE2 is brought on from shoreside. QE2 is too old to have reverse osmossis. To be fair, large bottles of mineral water are not that expensive onboard, and it is a holiday you are on.
Heather....apparently the tap water on the 'new' Costa Serena didn't taste too good last month...Perhaps the filtration ?chemicals they use to purify it...however I'm sure it is safe to drink. Regards Judy.
We have just returned from the caribbean and at the side of the tea and coffee machines on the decks were iced water dispenser and an ice machine next to it it tasted fine and I certainly suffered NO ill effects I was absolutely fine, and I drank it for 15 nights about 6/8 times per day. We were on the Sea Princess.
Thanks for all of your comments regarding the quality of water on cruise ships. since paul left and with the settlement not being as i had hoped i do have to watched the pennies, holiday or not. cal.
