Ocho Rios....There are some beautiful gardens close by and Dunns Falls but I would get a taxi (PLEASE make sure that you get one from inside the dock gates as getting one from outside can leave you open to real problems, trust me here) and rely on the driver to take you around to these, half a day is enough for that. Grand Cayman ...the only thing I ever do there is to snorkel because it is so good there. There is an area called "The Wall" where the depth suddenly drops from 6 foot to God knows what, it's very eerie but I've seen some very large fish in this area. The ladies like to go shopping in the town where you can find some very expensive jewellery but beware of black coral as it is very expensive and not always what it seems. It could even be a forbidden export but I'm not a hundred percent on that. This is a far safer island but do be very street-wise in Jamaica and stick with the crowds....regards...Nei.

For research suggest you read ports of call section on cruise critic. Some would even suggest not getting off in Jamaica [!] but if you are very careful you should be OK. For GC I echo the sentiments about the numerous diamond outlets!! So keep the wife away from your wallet! GC is a lovely island and the famed 7-mile beach is well worth seeing. I suggest you look at the shore excursions {and the prices} on the Celebrity web site and then compare to what people have said they have paid/done on ports of cal.

I would definitely recommend doing a ship excursion in Ocho Rios as unfortunately we once shared a taxi with an American couple with a baby to take us to Dunns River Falls and the taxi driver was paid when we arrived at the Falls. He arranged to collect us a few hours later and he never turned up. This was the first time we went on a cruise and we had a dreadful experience as we found Jamaica very unsafe. Anywhere else in the Caribbean you can get in a taxi and feel safe and usually trust the driver. Grand Cayman is a wonderful island and safe, the beach and Stingray City superb and a tour of the island is really good - easy to get an excursion with a driver off the ship.

For Grand Cayman, the submarine trip is well worth doing. You are taken out by boat to the "sub" whch takes as I recall about 30 passengers, then descends to view the coral reef, the "Wall" (see earlier answer) and the array of fish; and the colours of both fish and coral is mind-blowing. It's one of the few excursions that is really memorable and well worth it's price. Cynthia Setter.
