Sailed on this cruise ex. Hong Kong on 6 January 2008. Superb itinerary - wealth of opportunity for sightseeing. However, tours offered on board are expensive but use tour brochure as your guide to determine your choices and use taxis and minibuses on shore. Tho. tours staff will be very vague, or downright misleading, about the possibility of the availability of on shore transport, there is no shortage in any port - and the drivers, we found, to be well used to the tour routes offered and tho. their English might sometimnes have been fractured were well versed. You will easily find companions to share a minibus and will pay, at the most, less than HALF of the on board booking prices. Make a list of what you want to see, present it to the driver - get a price and NEGOTIATE. Apart from HK and Singapore where you will need some local currency for the excellent public transport systems you will only need the good old US dollar!! HK and Sing. easy on your own. All others taxi / minibus essential.Hop on Hop Off bus tour of Singapore is well worth considering - two separate routes for one price. Hong Kong - easy on your own using MRT, buses and the old Star Ferry. From Da Nang do not miss a tour beyond the city - taking in the marble workshops, Hoi An and the fishing villages. In Bandar a "city tour" visiting mosques etc is very good but finish off with a water taxi ride around the fishing village. In Manila you will need to take the ship's shuttlebus into the city centre. At the mall where you are dropped drivers will be waiting to offer "city tours" From Sonya make sure of a visit to "The End of the World" - a superbly landscaped "park" bordering a beautiful stretch of coastline. Again take the shuttlebus in and at the drop off point you will find plenty of taxis / mini buses.NEGOTIATE, NEGOTIATE, NEGOTIATE is the name of the game!!! We thoroughly enjoyed our visits. You'll enjoy too. If you want further info. post reply.

Thank you (Jones, Aberdare) for this comprehensive information. This will be our first cruise and we are a bit aprehensive, especially after reading some of the reviews on the Costa Allegra. Fay, Huntingdon.
